Sound Decibel Meter

Privacy Policy

Last updated September 13, 2026

Sound Decibel Meter ("we", "us", "our") operates the website at https://sounddecibelmeter.app (the "Service"). This page explains what information the Service handles, how it is used, and the choices you have.

Microphone audio

The meter needs access to your microphone to measure sound levels. When you press start, your browser asks for permission. The audio signal is analysed in real time inside your browser using the Web Audio API.

  • Audio is never recorded, stored, or saved to disk.
  • Audio is never transmitted to our servers or to any third party.
  • Only the current loudness value is computed. No speech or sound content is retained.
  • Access ends when you press stop, close the tab, or revoke the permission in your browser.

You can withdraw microphone permission at any time through your browser's site settings. The meter will not work without it, but the rest of the site will.

Data stored in your browser

The Service stores two small preferences in your browser's local storage: your chosen colour theme and your calibration offset. These never leave your device and you can clear them by clearing site data in your browser.

Usage data

Like most websites, our hosting provider may automatically log technical information when you visit, such as your IP address, browser type and version, the pages you view, the date and time of your visit, and referring URLs. This data is used to keep the Service running, secure and reliable.

We may use privacy-friendly, aggregated analytics to understand how the Service is used, for example how many people visit and from which countries. If we adopt an analytics or advertising provider that uses cookies or collects personal data, we will update this policy to name it and describe how to opt out.

Information you send us

If you contact us by email we will receive your email address and whatever you include in the message. We use it only to reply to you and do not add you to any mailing list.

How we use information

  • To provide and maintain the Service
  • To monitor usage and detect, prevent and address technical issues
  • To respond to your questions and feedback
  • To comply with legal obligations

Disclosure

We do not sell personal data. We may disclose information if required to comply with a legal obligation, to protect the rights, property or safety of the Service or its users, or to investigate possible wrongdoing in connection with the Service.

Security

The Service is served over HTTPS. No method of transmission over the Internet is completely secure, so while we take reasonable steps to protect information we cannot guarantee absolute security.

Children

The Service is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect personal data from them. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, contact us and we will delete it.

Links to other sites

The Service may link to websites we do not operate. We have no control over their content or privacy practices and encourage you to read their policies.

We may update this policy from time to time. Changes take effect when posted on this page, and the date at the top will be updated.
